A celebration of northern Sweden

Today we've had a typical amazing winter / spring day that one only can experience in Jämtland, Sweden!  The sun was shining, the temperature just at freezing and we have spent the day skating on the ice of lake Storsjön.  There were hundreds of people skating, cross country skiing, kite surfing or just playing around in the snow.  There were dog sleds and horse sleds and snowmobiles and people with big grins on their faces.  People truly enjoying the outdoors and everything that the city of Östersund has to offer.
Starting off next to the parking lot on the ice. In the back is the island of Frösön with the local downhill ski slope.
The ice tracks were perfectly groomed from yesterday's marathon and 1/2 marathon on skates.
A typical family on cross country skis with the baby being pulled in a sled, usually snuggled up in a sheep skin or reindeer fur for optimal heat.

After a great day in the snow, the evening couldn't have ended better with the dog's evening walk accompanied by Northern Lights in the sky!!!

Since I wasn't able to take a picture myself, I borrowed one from our newspaper from some Northern Lights back in September.  Next time I'll be more prepared...

Today was a celebration of a few of the best things northern Sweden has to offer - and I am grateful I get to experience them!!!
